The prevalence and predictors of feeding difficulties in children at self-feeding transition stage

Aim To understand the prevalence of feeding difficulties (FD) in young children at self-feeding transition stage (6–24 months age), and protective risk predictors associated with FD are to be determined through this study. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted within 5 representative Women's Children's hospitals Chengdu, Southwest China. Children age 6–24 who underwent routine child health care examination outpatient their parents were enrolled, while Montreal Hospital Feeding Scale which is validated used determine whether these have FD. Results total 1,211 subjects enrolled survey, where 380 reported as an 31.4%. Adjusted binary logistic regression multivariate analysis showed 10 independent Specifically there 6 predictors: (1) frequent constipation ( OR = 1.603, CI 1.006–2.555) CHILD sub-theme; (2) anxiety 4.322, 3.074–6.079) (3) indulgent parenting style 2.108, 1.306–3.405) PARENT (4) luring eat 2.806, 2.000–3.937), (5) forcing 2.040, 1.407–2.958), (6) allowing playing during mealtime 2.023, 1.435–2.853) FEEDING PRACTICE sub-theme. The remaining 4 factors including food preparing 0.586, 0.385–0.891) FOOD observing hunger satiety signals 0.667, 0.457–0.974), interacting 0.505, 0.308–0.828), well providing exclusive tableware 0.370, 0.191–0.719) Conclusions There appeared increasing trend prevalence.
